Heidi Allen, MP for South Cambridgeshire today publicly congratulated the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for their most recent CQC Inspection report which rated services at the trust as ‘good’ overall with some elements judged ‘outstanding’.

The Trust, which was placed into ‘special measures’ in April 2015 underwent a focussed inspection in February 2016 when inspectors noted significant improvement across most areas inspected. In line with the trusts improvement plan, assisted by constructive challenge from stakeholders, today’s report highlights continued improvement with the trust now rated as outstanding in the ‘caring’ and  ‘well-led’ domains and an overall service rating of ‘good’.

After digesting the findings, Heidi said ‘this report rightly highlights the important role  CUH staff have played in turning around the services provided by one of the UK’s largest hospital trusts.   Staff and senior management have engaged positively with the findings of previous reports to take ownership of the challenges faced.  The result is a hugely improved inspection report which rightly highlights areas of excellence within our local hospitals.’

Heidi continued ‘I am not surprised that care within the Trust was rated as ‘outstanding’.  Staff consistently demonstrate a willingness to go the extra mile on behalf of patients and so I’m delighted this was recognised in the report.  The Trust is still working towards achieving these standards across all categories with responsiveness highlighted as one area requiring improvement.   Issues relating to capacity and planning require investment and I’m determined to ensure that the Trust receives the support it needs from NHS England so that it can embed its values of excellence across all areas, without restriction.’

‘I recognise the demands placed on Cambridgeshire’s NHS.  We are one of the fastest growing regions within the UK, yet current funding fails to match the pace of growth.  I hope Government recognise the outstanding leadership and caring assessment outlined in this report when they address the Trust’s budget deficit in their next funding settlement.  CUH deserves a significant cash injection from the Prime Minister’s promised £20 billion to continue its path to excellence.   Today’s report is recognition of the hard work and dedication shown every day by NHS employees in fulfilment of their duties.  I congratulate them on this marvellous achievement and offer them my support in pursuing a fairer share of funding in the years to come.’
