At the beginning of August, Heidi Allen and a group of more than 70 cross-party MPs backed legal action to prevent the Prime minister from suspending parliament.
The full legal challenge, which argues that the Prime Minister advising the Queen to suspend parliament is unlawful, was due to be heard on Friday the 6th of September. However, the Judge has said that he is moving the hearing forward to earlier in the week as “it’s in the interest of justice and in the public interest that it proceeds sooner rather than later.”
He adds “There is urgency to this. Any delay of any sort is potentially fundamentally prejudicial, not simply to the interests of the petitioners but to the country as a whole.”
