Discussing Universal Credit and food bank usage on The World At One

Yesterday, the Work and Pensions Secretary Amber Rudd MP acknowledged that the increased use of food banks had been partly due to problems in the implementation of Universal Credit.

Heidi Allen MP has campaigned for improvements to the roll out of Universal Credit and jointly with Frank Field MP she recently launched an inquiry into chronic poverty in the UK. The main objective of the inquiry is to gain evidence on how and why the face of poverty is changing in our communities, to gauge the severity of destitution in each area, and to seek ideas for a reform programme to protect people from hunger and homelessness.

Speaking on BBC World at One, Heidi outlined her response to Amber Rudd’s comments and set out her views on the changes to Universal Credit that are still required.
